• IOS Open In -- the other way...

So, I was very happy to find BoxCryptor just the other day. I had been looking for some time for a way to scan financial documents with my iPad, and securely sync them to my Mac.
BoxCryptor had been working just fine for several trials over the last day or so, but I've just found that installing some additional apps on my iPad has kicked BoxCryptor out of the "Open In... " menu of my scanner apps.
I'll go into the details if requested, but I think for right now, the main question is -- How well is Boxcryptor likely going to work with Apple's screwy lack of file system in iOS?. Encrypting from the iOS side is the real unique feature of BoxCryptor, and that part is dependent on getting the files into the app. Not too may apps actually connect to BoxCryptor.
Right now for me, having my scanner app encrypt requires me deleting a couple of apps I just paid good money for from my iPad.

Any comments on this situation would be appreciated.

Is anyone else experiencing something like this?

I've been trying different apps today to see what might upload to BoxCryptor. I have things working for a while, and then BoxCryptor just disappears from the "Open In..." menu.
Now nothing works. My iPad is no longer a secure scanner.

Very strange ... or perhaps very creepy.

      Hello khead

this is a known issue caused by the iOS system. The "Open In" menu only allows 10 apps per file extension starting from the newest installed app to the oldest one. So to get BoxCryptor back to "Open In" you have to uninstall some apps which also use the file extension your scanner uses or you uninstall BoxCryptor and reinstall it so it should be again on top of the "Open In" menu. Unfortunately one other app will disappear because of the 10 app restriction.

        Thanks for the response!

The problem is, that BoxCryptor is one of the most recently installed apps by a long shot - just got it. The other apps in the menu are much older. I've tried reinstalling BoxCryptor now a few times, and it's not showing up in the menu. I've tried restarting my iPad between the delete and reinstall, and have been deleting other apps that are in the menu, but with no luck.
I can do my scanning by loading into the camera roll, which seems slightly less desirable, but is probably good enough for what I need.
I'm just curious why BoxCryptor has disappeared from all my Open PDF menus. It was up and running the other day, and then disappeared without my even adding any new apps.

Here's some additional info - Despite BoxCryptor being the most recent app purchase, it was appearing at the bottom of the menu list when it did appear.
I started checking out my other apps to see what else might work with BoxCryptor, and found almost none (I have a ton of apps).
I purchased 3 apps after Boxcryptor largely to see what might work with it. 1. PDF Converter 2. PDF Expert 3. FileApp Pro.
Right now, I open the "Open PDF in..." menu in my scanner app, and PDF Converter and Pdf Expert are listed, but not on the top of the list where they should be - just mixed in with other apps of mixed vintage. And of course no BoxCryptor, which I just deleted and reinstalled a few times.

OK - I'm seeing that this us just a pathetic problem with iOS that Apple has let go uncorrected for years. Nothing to do but try deleting apps, and hope a good combination shows up in the menu.
            Bad Apple!

Same issues here. I installed yesterday Boxcryptor on my iPad, but it does not appear when i use "send to app" (or open in...) with the most common kind of files, like pdf. It's just there with some obscure file types. At the moment, Boxcryptor is basically not usable on my iPad. I understand it's more of an iOS issue, but it's very annoying anyway.

                Hello vegaz

please read my post above. This is an Apple issue!

iOS 6 will has the ability to display more than 10 app from the “Open in”. Have a look to preview: http://weblobby.net/2012/06/25/the-all-new-iphone-os-beta-6-in-a-single-article/

I hope BC will have more viewer capabilities as well, as the actual are VERY poor.

                    Hello masvil

thanks for the hint. I think we have all waited long for this!

Also BoxCryptor will be upgraded with much more viewer capabilities. A new version will be released soon!

                    Best regards
