Thunderbird Portable crashes on startup

Hi!

I'm having problems with Boxcryptor 1.3.0.1. I'm trying to run Thunderbird Portable 13.0(portableapps.com) inside my Boxcryptor drive.

It always crashes when starting, error on MSVCR80.DLL offset 00048b76. I googled it and I find some people have seen this error, but nothing helps. One solved it by turning off the anti-virus, but I am not running any antivirus.

The funny thing is that this always crashes on Windows XP, but the exact same install on a Windows Vista 64-bit runs fine (it's on a shared folder, easy to try on other PC).

I really need to get it working on XP, any tips on how I could troubleshoot this issue?

Hi,

can you run Thunderbird Portable on your Windows XP computer from the regular drive (e.g. C:\)? At first sight, this problem sounds rather as a problem of your Windows XP installation than a problem caused by BoxCryptor.

Robert, thanks for the fast reply. Yes, I can run it just fine on the XP computer, as long as it's not inside Boxcryptor.

I am a programmer myself and I know that programs are constantly calling into that Microsoft runtime, so that their own bugs often show as crashes inside the Runtime just because some wrong parameter is passed into it.

Of course, Boxcryptor can be just fine and it could be a bug in Thunderbird or in PortableApps... but I don't know what could be confusing them, what is different inside a Boxcryptor drive?

OK, I can reproduce the problem on one of our test machines. The problem seems to be that Thunderbird wants to access the mscvr80.dll although it has been locked before. I'll further investigate this issue.

I saw Boxcryptor has a new version, 1.3.0.2. Should I expect it to include a fix for this issue? Nah, it's probably to soon.

I would try it myself but I am away from that Windws XP computer.

I'm sorry, but the new version does not contain a fix for this Thunderbird problem.
