No advanced preferences showing :-( (want to delete files with recycle bin)

Hi,
I have installed Boxcryptor 1.3.2 (free version) for windows for testing.
My first impression is positiv. Everything is easy.

I have the following problem: at the moment, Boxcryptor delete the files directly. I don't want this. I want, that Boxcryptor delete the files in the recycle bin.

In your manuel you wrote, if I go to the advanced settings and then in the preferences, I can change this.

But this is not possible. If I click in the advanced mode on the preferences, it just shows the option to enable or disable the automatic updates, nothing more.

I would like to change this, because at the moment it is very dangerous. Deleted files can not be recovered, even if accidentaly.

Can you pls. help?

I have running win 7 ultimate x64 with administrator rights.

When you create a new BoxCryptor Folder / Drive you can (un)check the following options:

1. Automount this drive ...
2. Enable filename encryption
3. Enable key validation
4. Enable recycle bin
5. ...
6. ...

Checkbox 4: default setting is unchecked.
I'm not using this feature but you probably should have checked it ?

After you switched to the Advanced Mode (right button in the toolbar), you can enable or disable it in the Advanced Options when creating or opening a BoxCryptor Folder.

Please note, that only Windows XP creates a recycle bin in the BoxCryptor Drive. Newer Windows version don't use it even if the option is enabled in the Advanced Settings.

Boxcryptor didn't show me the dialog for this options, when I created the drive with the letter G:
I'm very sure of it.

If I understand right, there is under win7 no option to enable the system recycle bin or a recycle bin in Boxcryptor. Is this right? Because if yes, I don't need more to search for the option the enable this in the advanced settings. But I think, not to work with a recycle bin is a really bad security bug. Why? Much people disable the feature unter windows, to warn before delete a file (like me). This is comfortable, because if a make a mistake, I can restore it from the recycle bin. If a file is too large for the recycle bin, windows warns me (because it can not be restored). But with Boxcryptor, if I delete accidentaly a file, I never see it again :-(

Hi Robert,

I have made a clean installation of my windows and installed the beta version on this board. The right version number is not 1.4 but 1.3.9.

After installing, nothing changed. I still have after clicking in options just the option the activate or deactivate updates. Nothing more. No option to confirm or not the deleting of files.

I made a test and the file was deleted without confirmation.

This is not a general option, but an option of a single BoxCryptor Drive. You can enable recycle bin support in the Advanced Options when creating or adding a BoxCryptor Folder in the Advanced Mode. If you want to enable recycle bin support on the current BoxCryptor Drive, please do the following:

IMPORTANT: You will have to re-enter the password of the BoxCryptor Folder, so be sure to remember it.

1) Open the BoxCryptor preferences. (Right click the BoxCryptor Icon in the system tray and choose "Preferences")
2) Enable Advanced Mode (Right item in the toolbar).
3) Remove the BoxCryptor Drive.
4) Add the BoxCryptor Folder.
5) In the Advanced Options, check the "Enable recycle bin" checkbox.

You mean, I had to add the boxcryptor folder in the advanced view of boxcryptor and then boxcryptor shows me the option about recycle bin? Did I understand this right?

Because I have installed the program in the simple mode and added the already existing boxcryptor-folder also in the simple mode.

But do you think this is user friendly? Or it is like this, because of beta version?

Yes, you did understand this right. Recycle bin support is not enabled by default and this can only be changed in the Advanced Mode.

And I know, that it's not yet user friendly and we will add the possibility to edit an existing drive until the final release of v1.4 (instead of removing and adding it again).

Just bought your unlimited personal version and want to turn off the filename encryption. After searching the forums I came upon this thread in which it states the following:

This is what I actually see:

1. Automount this drive ...
2. Enable key validation
3. Enable recycle bin
4. Mount as a fixed drive
5. Use an alternative configuration file

There is NO option to turn OFF the filename encryption. Where did this option go?

When do you expect the final 1.4 release and where do I find my current version number. I have it set to automatically check for updates so I expect to have the latest version. I am running Win7 Pro 32 bit.
Hiding these advanced options (and installed version number) rather than having them under Settings in Advanced Mode seems rather odd, even for a Beta version.

Hi,

The current version number is shown if you either hover over the BoxCryptor icon in the System Tray or if you open the About window (Right click the BoxCryptor icon in the System Tray and choose "About").

Which version do you have?

Hi Robert,

I had 1.3.2 on my PC and just upgraded to 1.3.9. Since I have automatic updates checked off I am surprised it did not update to the latest version already. However, I was able to find the missing filename encryption option.
What I cannot find is a way to enter a product key in the Android version in order to open additional drives on my Android tablet. The latest version on Google Play still shows 1.3.1. which is what I am running.
Appreciate any suggestions.

Hi,

v1.3.9 is the beta version for v1.4 and the automatic update check only triggers for stable releases. You cannot enter a serial number in BoxCryptor for Android because it is completely free. You can only be connected to one cloud storage provider at the moment but we're working on supporting multiple providers at the same time.

I have a question about the feature to enbable windows recycle bin.

If I delete a small file, the file comes in the recycle bin. Everything OK.

But when I deleted a folder with about 650 MB with many jpge's, the folder was deleted and disapeared from windows explorer. Then I empty the recycle bin, but before I have seen, that the folder was not there. I thougt, maybe it was deleted directly.

After that it was strange, that the space in my dropbox still was the same as before (before deleting the folder). So I take a look with Treesize and saw, that the folder with the jpge's is still there in my dropbox, but in the recycle bin. There is a folder called $RN29MME and there are alle the deleted pictures. But all other small files are normaly deleted and dont apear there.

I have deleted a file and after that I have clicked on "empty recycle bin" and the file is gone, but the folder with the pictures still is there and takes about 650 MB storage place...

What is the problem?
