Decrypting a single file?

Hi,

I would like to use BoxCryptor in combination with i.e. Dropbox.
Having installed BoxCryptor and Dropbox at home and at work works fine.
I have a lot of unencrypted files in Dropbox and a single folder that is encrypted with BoxCryptor.

When I go to a friend, I can login to the Dropbox web site and download a file from the encrypted folder.
Then I will have an encrypted file on my friends computer.

Is it possible to download the BoxCryptor application to my friends computer and easily decrypt the file?

Hello Jan

Yes it is possible. You just have to download the encrypted file and the .encfs6.xml file and put them into one folder. After that you can install BoxCryptor or use BoxCryptor Portable and point to this folder.

In light of Boxcryptor 2.0 deprecating the use of .encfs6.xml, what is the method to download a single file from a cloud provider's web interface and decrypt the file on the local machine?

This is an important Use Case as some cloud providers require all data to be synchronized to the local hard drive, and as the original member posted, if you wish to access your Boxcryptor encrypted file via the cloud provider's web interface from a machine that does not have Boxcryptor installed, you will merely be able to download a useless encrypted file.

With Boxcryptor 2.0 it's even easier then with Boxcryptor Classic.

It is enough to download the encrypted .bc file using your provider's web interface and place it in a temporary location. After setting up Boxcryptor and logging in, this temporary location must be added in the Boxcryptor preferences. Now you can open the Boxcryptor Drive, open the folder of the temporary location and access your file.

Is there not a way to use a portable (usb stick stored app) to decrypt a single file?
What if I'm at a clients office/home and need to decrypt a single file and they don't have boxcryptor installed or chrome?
