Installing 2.0.401.172 on Windows 7.

During installation (I have Dropbox installed) of the free vesion, I am given NO options to select the location to be encrypted, or the Boxcryptor drive letter.

Yes I know that I can change the drive letter through 'settings'.

But it is not possible to change the location. Boxcryptor selects my top-level Dropbox folder as the location, and it cannot be changed. I do not want to encrypt all of my Dropbox, only one sub-folder.

So I have uninstalled Boxcrypt until this problem is resolved.

Hi dmartin,

Boxcryptor shows all files - plain and encrypted - in the virtual drive. So even if your full Dropbox is shown in the Boxcryptor Drive, it is NOT automatically encrypted. You can encrypt one sub-folder in your Dropbox, simply right-click the folder in the Boxcryptor Drive and choose "Boxcryptor -> Encrypt".

Hi,

also irgendwie geht´s ja - ich hatte allerdings ähnliche Probleme bei der Installation.
Es geht schon mal los mit der Erstellung eines Accounts. Es ist völlig undurchsichtig, was man da als E-Mail-Adresse und als Passwort eingeben soll.
Ich hätte erwartet, dass ich die Boxcryptor installiere, dann starte, Einstellungen wähle und einen Account erstelle. Das Ganze unterstützt von einer aussagefähigen Menüstruktur. Bei Boxcryptor ist das anders.
Nach einigem Rumwurschteln habe ich es dann irgendwie geschafft, sowohl einen lokalen als auch einen Remote-Account einzurichten.
Auch das mit dem Ordner-Verschlüsseln in der Dropbox habe ich hinbekommen,
Irgendwie habe ich den Eindruck, dass alle Erklärungen auf die gekaufte Version zugeschnitten sind und für die freie Version nicht wirklich zutreffen.
Ein zusätzliches Problem bei meiner Installation: die Keyfiles liegen bei mir auf einem Memorystick. Steckt der nicht am Rechner, lässt sich die Software einfach nicht starten - eine aussagekräftige Fehlermeldung wäre hier hilfreich gewesen.

Resumee: Datschi-Backen-Lernen ist wohl einfacher, als Boxcryptor installieren.

I too ran into this problem last night after installing the free version on my brothers computer. He has DropBox and BoxCryptor automatically chose DropBox as the location. We want the location to be a sub folder in OneDrive and we are not able to change the location in the settings. The 'remove' button remains greyed-out and unusable. While the 'add' location button works, we are forbidden from adding the OneDrive folder because we have the limited free version.
How do we change the location? Do we need to uninstall and start over? What do we need to do differently?

it's not possible to remove automatically detected locations.
Anyway you may disable the location by unchecking the location (check-box left to the location name).

Afterwards you may add the other location.

I will try this tonight.
I meant to say that my brother's laptop runs Windows 7.
If I want to share encrypted folders with him through OneDrive, will he need his BoxCryptor location to be a folder in his OneDrive, or could he set the location to a folder on his hard drive in 'My Documents'? In other words, if his BoxCryptor location is on his hard drive outside of OneDrive, could he download the files from OneDrive, then save them to that BoxCryptor location on the hard drive, and then decrypt?

Am I correct that he will only be able to decrypt using the right click-->BoxCryptor--> decrypt command within the BoxCryptor drive in Windows Explorer (Windows 7)? Or will he be able to decrypt a file that is downloaded to a location outside of his BoxCryptor location?

So we were able to successfully add a OneDrive folder as BoxCryptor's location. That allowed us to decrypt a shared encrypted folder. We tried, but WERE NOT able to decrypt by making the BoxCryptor location a folder on the hard drive and moving downloaded files that hard drive folder. Still curious if that should be possible.

Hi M.Cleveland,

this is actually possible.

If the access permissions are set properly on that folder you can set it as a Boxcryptor location or copy this folder to an existing Boxcryptor location.
Please note that the Boxcryptor locations are always the original source folders.
They are not within the Boxcryptor drive.

If you set the folder as a Boxcryptor location you should be able to view it within your Boxcryptor drive.
There you can right-click the folder and choose "Boxcryptor -> Manage permissions".
Is the account visible in there?
