Remember Password?

Hi -

I recently installed boxcryptor on a WIN7 PC as local. It is working except:

When I start boxcryptor it opens with a red "ERROR LOADING SETTINGS" banner. I then check the "Remember Password" box, enter the password, and click on Ok. The boxcryptor drive is mounted and all runs normally. Why does the error banner occur and why on future loads is the password not remembered?

I noticed in the boxcryptor docs that a C:\Users\Userxx\AppData\Local... sub-directory is supposed to be created to store the password, but that never appears on my PC.

(I am also using a keyfile, and the keyfile location and file name is remembered correctly.)

Did I miss something in the documentation?

Hi Brian,

if Boxcryptor can remember the keyfile location, then the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Boxcryptor should be there. Can you please check whether the folder is created or not? Normally you can find this folder in "c:\Users\Gustav\AppData\Local\Boxcryptor".

If the folder is there, please delete him and restart Boxcryptor.

Yes - the folder "c:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local\Boxcryptor" is there. I deleted the folder and restarted Boxcryptor.

But checking "Remember password" still has no effect - the password is still requested each time Boxcryptor is started.

Am I not understanding the purpose of "Remember password"?

I have the exact same problem. Running Windows 8.1 64-bit (final, not beta/RC) with a local key file. When I select "remember password" I get the "ERROR LOADING SETTINGS" warning. If I don't select "remember password" no error. Regardless of which route I take, my password is never saved. But all other settings are properly saved regardless if I try to save my password or not. Running version 2.0.405.295.

Normally we're doing "staged" roll outs. That means, a new version is not immediately delivered via auto-update.
