Does Boxcryptor upload our data?

Few days ago I have been told about a new cloud data storage plan from google which I consider having a good pricing, 2$ per month for 100gb..
So I started looking for services which would encrypt my data, not that i have data that would compromise myself but just for the very old sake of personal privacy.

So i have been told about Boxcryptor by a friend of mine, and i really enjoyed the premises of the service, specially that was an european company and that the data encryption is made on the client computer before being transmitted.

I started performing some tests, assigning the encrypted data to the Google Drive service.. and today I realized that i had two processes uploading data like crazy... one it obvious, that is Google Drive, and for my surprise, the other service was Boxcryptor..

You can see attached this picture, where you can see the data transfer rate, the data transfer, and the servers...

I wonder if anyone had noticed this before..

I tracerouted the first IP, and it went to washington before arriving to Germany... ok.. might be a routing problem from my ISP or any on the way, but what i don't understand is, why the **** is sending data to Boxcryptor service??

Thanks for trying Boxcryptor. This is a misunderstanding because you seem to have looked at the wrong line.

You suspected Boxcryptor (5.9.181.206 is correct) to cause 247 MB bytes out, but actually it is 277 KB (kilo) bytes out. The first line with 247 MB bytes out appears to be the summary of ALL traffic on your network card (including Boxcryptor, Google Drive, etc. traffic). Boxcryptor's traffic is noted in the second line.

To sum it up: No, Boxcryptor does not upload your data. The traffic Boxcryptor is causing is used to synchronize your keys from our server to your device (and vice versa). If the packets go to Washington before arriving in Germany, this is clearly due to your ISP's routing and cannot be influenced by us. Just in case anybody in Washington wanted to snoop on your packets, Boxcryptor's traffic is SSL encrypted between your device and our servers.
