How can i recover my encrypted files on a new PC ?

Hi,

To recover your encrypted files on a new PC:

1) Sync your encrypted files to your new PC (e.g. by installing the Dropbox client and logging in)
2) Download and install Boxcryptor
3) Sign in with your Boxcryptor account credentials
4) You should be able to access your encrypted files again.

- Will this procedure work with Free account, or does it require the Unlimited Personal or Business versions?

- If I backed up my Boxcryptor folder on an external drive, how could I open it (see the decrypted files) in the future? ... and does it matter whether this is on the same PC, or a different one?

- In order to recover encrypted files, what would be the files that Boxcryptor adds to the Boxcryptor folder, or to other folders on the PC ?

... at this point I am inquiring about Windows 7, and at a later time will use it on Mac as well.

Hi,

- Yes, this procedure works for all account types (Free, Unlimited Personal, Unlimited Business, etc.)

- You can simply add your external drive as a location in the Boxcryptor settings and access your encrypted files. Note: In the free version only one location can be active at a time so you might have to disable e.g. Dropbox (But you can always enable and disable locations.)

- When using a Boxcryptor account, Boxcryptor does not add any file to your PC which is required to decrypt a file (besides the encrypted file itself, of course). When using a local account, the associated key file is required.
