BoxCryptor slowing down when many thousand files in one folder

I'm using boxcryptor 2.0.431.403 Unlimited Personal with Windows 8.1.

Currently I'm moving all camera picture uploads to an encrypted folder. Moving startet with about 8 MB/s and now 3000 pictures later it's only 60 KB/s! All pictures are in one folder. Opening this folder is a pain and lasts many many seconds.

I deactivated the cloud storage upload und my antivirus scanner. With no success.

What can I do (besides making subfolders)? What can the boxcryptor team do?

Hello,

Do you have filename encryption enabled? If yes, you can improve the performance by disabling filename encryption. Filename encryption causes a significant performance decrease in folders with many files and/or deep folder structures.

I had / have the same problem and for me the following workarround helped a little bit:
> not encrypt filenames (like robert said)
> switch the options in the settings of your image folder (properties)> customize > optimize this folder for "general items"
> split the big folders to smaller ones ;-)

on the desktop pc its slower then on my newer notebook ... (on the notebook the performance is ok.

Is there a significant difference in performance between BC mounted as a local disk (with Trash and Spotlight) and mountead only as a virtual volume without Trash and Spotlight?

Hi,

It shouldn't make a difference performance-wise if Trash is enabled. However, if Spotlight is enabled, you could notice a performance impact on the creation of new files because Spotlight indexes them afterwards. And the indexing causes additional load on Boxcryptor.
