Viewing a file without boxcryptor installed

Hi, I used to have all my details in a text file in dropbox.
I was Hi-jacked, ie. my car was stolen, and they also took my cellphone, I was left stranded in an unknown area.
Luckily some people who helped me had internet access, and I was able to use dropbox's web access to access my details text file, so I was able to fill out the details of my car (VIN number) at the police station, and I was able to get phone numbers.

Now if the same thing etc were to happen, now that my details are encrypted using boxcryptor, would I be able to use anybodys browser to access my files and get the required information?

We have an extension for Google Chrome which you can encrypt and decrypt your files directly in the browser. It's only a beta version but it should do the work in such an emergency situation - as long as you can use Google Chrome and you can install an extension there. More info:

We are also working on a portable version which does not require any installation and allows you to access your encrypted files. It should be available until the end of this year.

I'm using Google Drive and the Chrome add in is not working. Boxcryptor works just fine with the local drive but does not recognize folders through Chrome. The plug in is working with Dropbox.

Is there a problem with the plug in because I am using a Google Apps for business account? If so, do you have an expected date to fix the problem?

Hi,

please make sure you're using the extension with the old Google Drive website - the new one is currently not supported. We are, however, working on the issue and will be releasing a new version of the extension very soon (that also supports the new Google Drive). Our current version is 2.0.205.88. Chrome extension is not working with OneDrive. Am I doing something wrong? I just installed Boxcryptor extension to Chrome, logged in to Boxcryptor add-in, go to OneDrive site and all files displayed as on any other browser (with *.bc extension), there is no way to open any encrypted file.

Thank you for reporting this - I just checked it, OneDrive has changed its site structure, and our extension can no longer find the file elements.
We're currently in the process of finishing a new release for the extension, which will be released the next couple of days. This new version will once again support OneDrive.
