Boxcryptor app is broken and now all my data is inaccessible.

Hi Boxcryptor team and users,

I have enjoyed using the Boxcryptor 2 product in conjunction with Dropbox.
So I encrypt my secure data in Dropbox with BC.

All went well for about a year - thanks for that. Today total disaster.
Because I ran Boxcryptor without my external drive plugged in (where I keep my Dropbox), it cleared its locations.
I couldn't find where to add locations at this point and at the same time Windows told me there was an update for Boxcryptor.
So I downloaded latest version and tried to install it.

Install caused a Windows crash and the error says 'we have detected a missing .NET update kb2468871'.
This is garbage because I have updated the .NET and also totally uninstalled it and re-installed it. Repeatedly. And tried applying the kb2468871 download too. No change - same message and crash every time.

So basically I can't get Boxcryptor to reinstall - I just get this error every time and now cannot access any of my data.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Hello Marc,

for Windows 7, please make sure that .NET 4.5 is installed (https://www.microsoft.com/en-sg/download/details.aspx?id=30653).
If that isn't the issue, try repairing your .NET installation with this repair tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135
Should that not resolve the issues, please send a mail with this issue to support@boxcryptor.com.

Sorry, the link is actually correct, but when you click on it, the forum interprets the ")" as part of it, that's why it fails :-)
Here without the brackets:

To find out which version of .NET you've installed, click on "Default Programs" in the start menu, then choose "Programs and Features" at the lower left. Now search for something along the lines of "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5" or higher.

You can also just install .NET 4.5 with the link above. If you've already installed 4.5, it will tell you.

Hi again,

Thanks.. for some reason that got Boxcryptor to install. I still got a non fatal Windows crash so something is wrong but Boxcryptor is running again.
I have my original problem now though that I haven't got Dropbox inside Boxcryptor.
How do I get it back in Boxcryptor?
Also Box is in Boxcryptor and I don't want it there!

Are you a free user? With a free account, you're limited to one cloud storage provider at a time. Boxcryptor seems to detect Box first, so there is "no space" for Dropbox left.
To fix this, open the Boxcryptor settings, uncheck "Box" and activate "Dropbox".

If this doesn't solve the problem, please write a mail with a link to this topic to support@boxcryptor.com. (Its a better place to discuss problems that doesn't affect other users).
