Child Folder

I'm trying out boxcryptor with the free version (and haven't gotten very far). I initially selected Dropbox as my location, but then decided to begin with only one of the Dropbox folders. So I unselected Dropbox in the Location panel and tried to add a Dropbox subfolder. I get an error message "Can't Add Location! The path would be a child folder of an existing location." Of course, there shouldn't be any existing locations, since I unselected Dropbox and no other locations are chosen. What's wrong?

Hi mctavish,

to maintain the highest security, Boxcryptor only encrypts files and folders that are synced to your local machine.

My first guess would be that you don't see these folders because they are not synced to your computer.

Thank you for the reply.

I'm not sure what you mean by "not synced to your computer." I thought that all of the Dropbox file and folders were synced to my computer. When I look at my Dropbox folder in Finder, there is a white check in a green circle to the right of every one.

Hi mctavish,

I think Phillip misread your question. We do not support having child directories of locations to be a location itself, this is what the message tells you. In your case, you might just keep the whole Dropbox as a location and create a shortcut to your desired encrypted subfolder.
