Boxcryptor and OneDrive make MacBook unusable slow

Hi guys,

So I have OneDrive running on my Macbook Pro (El Capitan). In this OneDrive folder, I have 1 folder that is being encrypted with OneDrive. However, when I open this encrypted folder and try to open/edit/add/delete files, I get the infamous 'Beach Ball' loading cursor. It takes about 5 minutes to add a file of just 1MB. Eventually my MacBook becomes unusable slow and I have to force shutdown my Macbook.

I also have a Windows desktop and everything runs fast and smooth there.

I've already reinstalled OneDrive and Boxcryptor. Just 2 days ago I also did a complete reinstall of OSX. I already had the Boxcryptor issue before that though, but I thought that reinstalling OSX would fix this error. It didn't though.

Anything else I can try?

thanks for your message.

Are your files within OneDrive "offline available"?
Is this behavior persistent when using DropBox instead of OneDrive?
(Please test this.)

Are you using any anti-virus app?
Please name your set Boxcryptor preferences.

Hi Richard,

I'm using Eset Cyber Security. I disabled it as a test and wow, everything is running fast and smooth again! It seems to be the 'Real Time File System Protection' that is slowing down my entire system. Anything I can do to fix this or is my only option to disable the real time protection? In the meantime, I'm also going to reach out to Eset and ask if they're familiar with this issue.

So I got a reply from Eset and they told me how I can add an exclusion (http://support.eset.com/kb3258/). Now my encrypted folder doesn't get scanned anymore. This means I have to be extra careful to which files I put in this folder though.

Very happy that I can use Boxcryptor again. Many thanks!
