Boxcryptor fixed drive and Veeam Endpoint backup

Used software: Windows 10 Pro, Boxcryptor 2.3.415.455 and Veeam Endpoint Backup 1.5.0.306
I enabled following in advanced mode:

- Enable Recycle bin
- Mount as fixed drive
- Mount for all users
- Mount in Windows Mount manager
- Hide files and folders starting with a dot.

Tried to add this volume into Veeam Endpoint Backup Free, it actually sees the boxcryptor volume, but backup job fails with error "Creating VSS snapshot Error: Failed to create snapshot: Backup job failed. Cannot create a shadow copy of the volumes containing writer's data. VSS asynchronous operation is not completed. Operation: [Shadow copies commit]. Code: [0x80042306]. "

This happens only when Boxcryptor volume is selected, it does not support VSS snapshots? Do people actually backup contents of boxcryptor like this?

Perhaps it is a solution / workaround for you.

Hello,

When the "Mount in Windows Mount Manager" option is enabled, Windows thinks that the drive supports VSS snapshots - however, the Boxcryptor drive does not support VSS snapshots and thus you see the VSS errors when using Veeam Endpoint Backup. If you want to backup the contents of the Boxcryptor drive, please use a backup tool which does not rely on VSS snapshots.
