• explorer crashes instead of asking to overwrite files

Hi,

when copying existing files into an encrypted google-drive folder, explorer crashes instead of asking to overwrite the files.
No problem with lokal folders.
Any idea?

Thank you.

Boxcryptor 2.15.578
Win 10 Pro 64bit (with Creators Update)

    Even copying/moving crashes the explorer.

Google drive with boxcryptor not startet works.

Works on Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

I noticed, that the question for encrypting files (when copying to unencrypted folders) is missing in windows 10.

I'm having this issue as well, but I'm having it when trying to copy to the normal Google Drive folder (bypassing Boxcryptor) too. I've read about people having this problem with Google Drive itself, i.e. people who don't even use Boxcryptor. I'm currently redownloading the latest version of BC to reinstall it and see what's up, but at this download speed it's gonna take a while...not sure why their download server is so slow.

Nope, it's Boxcryptor or the way it interacts with Windows 10 after the Creators Update, perhaps. Could be unrelated to that update, hard to say the exact timing when this started.

After uninstalling Boxcryptor, restarting, installing the latest version again, and restarting, I can now copy files directly to the Google Drive folder without Windows Explorer crashing--although I suspect that has more to do with the restarts than with anything going on with BC.

But BC still crashes Windows Explorer when attempting to copy files into the BC drive. I can copy files FROM the drive, and I can create new files (Word docs etc.) on the BC drive as well as modify existing ones...just can't copy files to it.

            Just an update,

I got fed up with some other issues Windows 10 was having so I spent a few hours last night reformatting my system drive and doing a clean install of everything. Having no problems now with BoxCryptor or anything else that was plaguing me.

It's an annoying and time-consuming option but as a last resort perhaps...

              Hello Elmar,

could you write us a message to support@boxcryptor.com? Just mention this thread, and we'll have a look at this.
@Valymer: Should you be able to reproduce the issue on your new installation, feel free to also contact us directly.

              Best regards,
              Christian

                DONE

                  1. Removing and Reinstalling Boxcryptor didn't help.
                  2. I can reproduce the crashes of windows explorer on an ("boxcryptor-managed") USB-drive. So it seems to be an issue not only with Google-Drive.

                    Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that we have been able to identify the cause for the crashes and they will be fixed in the upcoming version of Boxcryptor for Windows (~ 1-2 weeks).
