I have a question about the data integrity and authentication check in boxcryptor. According to my study on Boxcryptor's technical review, Boxcryptor has a very strong method for encrypting our data and files. But I have another concern about checking the integrity and authentication of data after decrypting the data. For example, I save my encrypted files on a USB flash. This USB flash may also be used by other persons. After using this USB flash by other person I gain this USB flash again and by Boxcryptor I decrypt my files on the USB flash. How can Boxcryptor check the integrity and authentication of my files? I mean how can I sure that my data has not been changed by other person, I want to know the name of the algorithm and it's manner in Boxcryptor for checking the lack of any change in my data? What is the name of MAC algorithm for checking the originality and integrity of data?

Hello,

While Boxcryptor provides confidentiality through encryption, it does not guarantee integrity of encrypted files at the current state. For various reasons (e.g. performance) Boxcryptor does not employ a MAC algorithm to guarantee file content integrity. If external manipulation of encrypted files is part of your threat model, Boxcryptor might not the right tool for it.
