In other words, if i have a dropbox account using filename encryption, do you think i should make a local backup of the encrypted data or what's inside the boxcryptor drive?
I'm asking because besides obvious security reasons there's also an angle about speed of recovery in case of disaster. I don't want to wait for DP to sync 1tb of files to my drive over WAN when i could just plug in a drive.
Sounds to me like i should almost make a backup of both:
1) in case of disaster/reinstall, i can just paste the Dropbox items and hope that dropbox doesn't mess up the catch-up sync (this happens all the time when i use boxcryptor)
2) in case of disaster, and me losing my boxcryptor keys, I can always refer to the plain text copy of the files (assuming that i keep that drive safe, say in a bank vault).
What do you think? Thank you.
