Error "Could not write value to key"

While upgrading to the latest version of Boxcryptor (2.17.635), this message came up during the installation phase:

"Could not write value to key \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{software key}. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel

CANCEL RETRY IGNORE"

Note: I have omitted the actual software key number for security reasons but it is a 32 character number with uppercase alphanumerics.

I clicked on IGNORE and the latest version completed installation successfully and seems to be de-crypting the existing data stored in my dropbox ok.

Do I need to be concerned? What was that all about?

Hello,

Although it's a bit strange that you cannot write this registry entry, you do not need to be concerned. This registry entry is used to add Boxcryptor into the navigation pane of Windows Explorer - which is more a "convenience" feature. Even if Boxcryptor is not there, you can always open the Boxcryptor drive via "This PC".
