Can't decrypt my files. Looking for solution.

Hello,
After reinstalling Boxcryptor I can't open any of my files. I'm using the same
login info as before.
Contacted support, sent them some of my files. The guys gave me some recommendations but I'm still not able to open any of my files. Desperately need a step-by-step info.
Some of the steps recommended by HD:
"you don’t have access, because you are working with the local key and the file you have sent to me has only permissions for your online account.
Otherwise you must decrypt all your files from one account and re-encrypt them with the other"
I never had any duplicated accounts and always been using the same email / password to log into my BC account. What am I doing wrong? Right clicking on any of my files or folders giving me the instant error: "Access denied"

Hello Igor,

In your support ticket, I have told you that:

1. You are working in "local mode" (indicated by the screenshots you have sent).
2. You also have an online account.
3. You are trying (while using the local account) to decrypt the files from the online account --> not possible, because:
4. These two accounts are using different encryption keys.

Solution:

1. Check to see which files are encrypted by which account
2. Decrypt the files.
3. Decide which account you want to use (local or online).
4. Encrypt the files.
5. Done.

Thank you Yasmin. I'm not as smart as you. What is online account? Is this the one I'm logging into using my browser? I'm currently logged into my account and I don't see any options to add or decrypt files stored on my hard disk...
OK. Let's start by this: "1. Check to see which files are encrypted by which account"
How can I check this? There is no option to check this.

Right click the encrypted folder, boxcryptor, click manage permissions. Now it tells you the email of the account that owns the folder.

Make sure this email is verified on website, I used mine for awhile without verifying and then couldn't login.

If its an online account it should just work as long as you login with the same one as the files, and you haven't restarted your account.

Any help? Can't move from that point. Account is local, password has never been changed. How to decrypt my files?

Igor Hey i believe that means there should be some sort of key you saved to decrypt your account. I could be wrong, but the email here is usually one you have provided yourself.

I just did a tiny bit of reading, and it appears you will need both a key file and a password to decrypt a local account. Do you have the key file?

Hi. Yes I do have a key file. I don't understand how to use it. Placing it inside the folder I want to be decrypt does nothing.

Alright, so what you do, is sign out, and exit out of boxcryptor in the bottom right.
Open boxcryptor again, click the 3 dots in the top right, select local account
At the bottom, it says "I want to use a local account", click that
Now it wants you to drop the key file here.

Every time your account gets signed out, you'll need this key file again.

Sorry wrong info, I'm afraid I don't have the key I used 2 years ago when I created the BC account. I found a bunch of .bch keys but not the .bckey one.

Igor Maybe a program like fileseek.ca can find the file on your system. You will have to check every last file you own for a .bckey file, and pray to God you find it.

unfortunately you really need that .bckey file and your password to access our files again. There is nothing we can do on our side.

Tried to search .bckey all over my disks but no luck. I'm afraid I never got it stored anywhere.
BC is like love: difficult to find easy to lose and hard to forget 😂
