Handling big data on small hard drive with icloud and boxcryptor

Hi there,

The use case :

I have 1To on a hard drive.
I want my 1To on iCloud handled by boxcryptor.
My mac has a 512Go hard drive.

My actual solution :
I import it piece by piece from my hard drive, send it to icloud and then ask my mac to delete the local data (see picture)

Picture : "Delete the local file"
Send to the cloud and delete local data

Problem :
I activated the encrypt name file option, but it prevent me to know what I'm deleting localy.

Question :
I'd like to know how to go back from the encrypted filename choice, and to have the real name again.

The perfect solution :
The perfect solution would be having the option "delete localy" in the boxcryptor menu (this way, we could encrypt the names but know what to delete localy, and then we could handle easly big amount of data :

I'm I missing something ? How could I handle my use case the clever way ?

Hi,

thank you for your feedback.

You can disable the file encryption in the security tab of the settings but this will only affect new files.
To remove it from any existing files right click on the file and pick the option "Boxcryptor > Disable Filename Encryption"

You can find out witch file or folder you can remove locally by right clicking o the file in the Boxcryptor Drive and picking the option "Boxcryptor > Show original in iCloud Drive".

If you delete the file from within Boxcryptor virtual drive (where you can see the filenames) won't this delete the files permanently from iCloud?

I want to free up local hard drive so I can upload more files as I also have the same problem: bigger LaCie HDD than my Mac and with filename encryption turned on.

I understand how to turn off the filename encryption. That bit is easy. Not deleting my files I have just uploaded to iCloud via Boxcryptor this I do not understand. I need to free up more local HD otherwise I can't send more files to iCloud. Thanks
