Boxcryptor.exe was suddenly deleted on Windows 10 !!!

Hello,

I've tried to set a second Boxcryptor account for my wife on her Windows account (Windows 10). First I've tried to install Boxcryptor (with the last setup file : Boxcryptor_v2.39.1135_Setup.msi). When running the setup file, the only option I got was to remove Boxcryptor so I've quit the setup wizard. I've realized it was already installed through my personal Windows account in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Boxcryptor" as I've been using Boxcryptor without any problem for two weeks now in my personal Windows account.

So I run BoxCryptor, have started to login with the new account of my wife, but suddenly Boxcryptor quit. When I tried to restart it again, a Windows popup has appeared to tell me that the file that shortcut refers to has been deleted! I've checked in C:\Program Files (x86)\Boxcryptor, and the executable "Boxcryptor.exe" was missing but the other Boxcryptor files were there. Quite strange!

I've thought to virus symptoms but I am well protected with antivirus and I did not see any other executable deletions on my computer and the other programs work well.

I tried 2-3 times to uninstall Boxcryptor, restart my computer and reinstall it but the same problem occurs, whether in my personal Windows account or with the Windows account of my wife.

I've succeed in making a copy of boxcryptor.exe before the file was deleted. After the problem occurs again, I moved the copy of the file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Boxcryptor. I started the executable, it crashed a few seconds later and the file disappeared again! I tried to copy again the file and Windows prompts to tell me that I don't have the rights to do this action (but I've just done it and I have the admin rights!).

I renamed the file "boxcryptor.exe", succeed to copy it in the same folder (without any right problem) and start the app. Nothing seemed to happen... but a debug mode was run and generated those log files on my desktop. Perhaps they will say something to you? [UNABLE to download any file even PDF in this forum...]

After a quick answer from the BoxCryptor support team, I've rechecked my antivirus Avast... And the latter was responsible of the problem! It was considering C:\Program Files (x86)\Boxcryptor\CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe as a threat ("IDP.Generic" threat). I've configured Avast so as to consider this file and the entire BoxCryptor folder as an exception and I was able to reinstall the program and make it work.
Finally I've sent to Avast a report to tell them that it was a false positive hoping that future BoxCryptor users won't get the same bad surprise! 😉
