Backing up cloud storage

This may be a stupid question so I apologise in advance.

If you wanted to backup your cloud files which are being encrypted by Boxcryptor, would you unencrypt them first to copy them to the backup medium? Or would you back them up in their encrypted state? If the latter, would it be easy to access those encrypted files again if they had to be retrieved from the backup?

Of course the retrieval will have BC installed and the correct access credentials.

Hi flailingman, I think, this is no stupid question at all.
I keep my own regular backups (three versions) frequently. So I copy all of my content in a plain way into an encrypted container. To be more precise: an encrypted apple dmg inside an encrypted veracrypt container. This container I save on my own server at home and in the cloud as well.
Mainly to retrieve accidentially deleted files, or broken files - seldom, but really annoying.

Thank you. I am going to copy the encrypted files from my cloud account to an external HDD then put it in a fire proof safe. This way I imagine if, say I was a victim of ransomware or something, I could restore the cloud account and use BC to unencrypt them again.

For me, I am new to Boxcryptor and the reason I am trying to make it work for me is to access my files from my phone.

Anyway, I put all files on a hardware encrypted HDD and another version on the cloud encrypted by Rclone. I also setup a cloud synchronization service which syncs the content from one cloud to another. hence at anytime, I have 3 copies at 3 different location.

Ransomware is not a problem as you can easily detect it by monitor the amount of changes synchronized between accounts.
