How do I know when it is safe to delete original files after uploading?

So, I am uploading some files to my account to free up space on the HD. How do I know when it is "safe" to delete those files from the original computer? Should I be watching DropBox and if it is still syncing? Or should watch for the circular "upload-status" icon to disappear in BoxCryptor? I really do not know and this would be a huge help. I always upload files and then don't know when it's safe to delete them and then forget to delete them, which kind of defeats the entire purpose of what I am trying to do... which is free up space.

We would recommend you to use the Dropbox feature Smart Sync :https://help.dropbox.com/en-en/installs-integrations/sync-uploads/smart-sync
This way you could choose between putting your data locally or "online only" (which would free your local space).
You can watch the short video in the link above, it will explain to you how you can use the feature.

Regarding the Boxcryptor encryption process, there is no sync time required for Boxcryptor to encrypt your data, this happens instantaneous.

Jannik this is not a question specific to Boxcryptor but is related to your cloud storage provider. Look up if iCloud supports local and cloud based files. Otherwise, Boxcryptor is just a middle man that doesn’t (or at least, shouldn’t) affect the actual sync process in any way
