I'm facing the following problem:
- I have a backup of a Boxcryptor file which was created on a previous Windows version (Win 7, now using Win 10) and with a former BC version (don't know the exact version). Beside that, the overall hardware config has changed.
- I also have the key file and do know the password to access the key file.
[both, the content file and the key file endings are renamed to different file types - this didn't cause any problems in the past with the "old" configuration mentioned above. Both files may have been moved several times around into different folders. I always used this database as local account.]
- When selecting "local account" in the newest version of BC, the browsing window opens up to select the keyfile. Then the password is demanded. After entering the correct password (entering a wrong password on purpose will result in an error message), the virtual drive opens up in the windows explorer. By default OneDrive is selected as storage folder. So i right-click on the BC system tray, then i click on settings, then i deactivate onedrive. Now i select "add" to choose the folder which contains the encrypted data file and the keyfile (where i stored these).
- Back on the Win Explorer, the BoxCryptor Drive refreshes and shows the content of the folder. At this point, i expected to get the decrypted and accessible content of the database (access to all of my files). instead of this, there is no difference between storage folder and virtual drive - just the icons of both files have instead of a sheet (unknown file type), a sheet with a green tick mark. By right-clicking on one or the other file, it offers to encrypt the file. So it seems to not regocnize these files as a bc-encrypted file.
What i am doing wrong? I've searched all through the Help and Forums Pages with no success. It seems that there are no step-by-step instructions for importing a key file and its corresponding data file to a new system setup using the local account feature.
