Hello! I would like to ask help with an installation error I keep getting.
I will explain my entire situation below, but for those of you who are lazy (LOL), here is the TL;DR:
- MacBook Pro 15" 2011, patched-Catalina 10.15.6, Boxcryptor 2.37.1043, cferrordomainlaunchd error 4 upon launch (picture attached)
At first, Boxcryptor did not launch at all (meaning, not even a spinning beachball cursor or an icon bouncing on the dock, etc.). I would try launching the app and... nothing.
And then I found out this solution on Reddit concerning Google Chrome not launching on Catalina. The solution allowed Boxcryptor to finally launch, except that (I'm assuming) it has to do more configuration stuff (post-install), and that is causing the aforementioned problem to arise.
My guess from countless Google searches is that Catalina has some strict Gatekeeper settings, or something about admin privileges and "blessing helper tools" that is causing conflicts.
As for the "patched-Catalina", my specific MacBook model does not natively support Catalina. So I am using dosdude1's patcher to install said OS. "Why?" you might ask. Because some app (Goodnotes 5, specifically) that I need for work does not support previous versions of macOS.
I don't know if the following information will add to the discussion or not, but I also have a 2008 Mac Pro (also patched to run unsupported High Sierra 10.13.6) that does NOT have any issues with Boxcryptor. I.E, I don't think a patched OS has anything to do with the issue I am facing. But then again, different Mac models, different OSes, etc. so I may be wrong. Feel free to correct me, though.
Solutions that I have tried:
- The official Boxcryptor FAQ
- Disabling SIP, then trying again
- Disabling Gatekeepr, then trying again
- Booting into Safe Mode, then trying again
Any help would be great! For the moment being, I have resorted to setting aside the MacBook and using the Mac Pro instead (although I still can't use Goodnotes because again, only Catalina is supported).
