Boxcryptor reliability

Have this question been popping up on my mind..

I recently purchased Boxcryptor Personal to try out the service first. I like it a lot. Very simple to use. However, I ran into this problem: If I sync the files on device 1, I can't view those files on device 2 (file is corrupted). I can still view those files on device 1. If I unencrypt the files on device 2, I can then view those files. This happen to Google File Stream inside Boxcryptor.

I sent a ticket, but haven't heard of a response for a few days now. I saw the advertise Boxcryptor Business: "Higher priority for support cases. Get help faster, in case there is a problem." So I upgraded my account to business, but haven't had a response in 24 hours.

Reading this forum, I realized people have so many problems. Wondering what if later on, there is a problem that prevent me from accessing the files. If the problem is so urgent. But the support speed remains the same. is there a way to prevent this? is there anyway to receive faster support? Luckily, I can access my files now. But kinda concern with Boxcryptor reliability in the future.

lyhuy1000 I haven’t run into these sorts of issues before and have been a personal level user for several years. I have a google drive folder that I encrypt in Boxcryptor. If I view it via Boxcryptor on my pc, the enclosed files open fine. Viewing it on google, it’s encrypted and so is gibberish. Same deal on mobile. If I view it via the mobile Boxcryptor app, it’s fine.

Is this what you’re doing too?

Thanks for the information. Certainly ease my concern.

I have 2 pc and a laptop (3 devices). I have Google Drive File Stream, which has 2 subfolders "My Drive and Shared Drives." Boxcryptor automatically mount Google Drive File Stream (G🙂.

If I created or uploaded a file into an encrypted folder in My Drive (subfolder of Google Drive File Stream) on Device 1, I can certainly view it via Boxcryptor on Device 1. But I can't do that on other device (the file would show as corrupted). Only the device that originally uploaded the file can view it. However, if I want to view the file (that was originally uploaded by Device 1) on Device 2, I would have to decrypt the file on Device 2.

Right, device 2 needs to view the file via Boxcryptor as well, which I'm sure is how you ended up solving your issue

Hahaa more complex than that buddy..

The issue is more likely because of the Manage Locations.

After updated to Google File Stream version 45.0.12.0 and Boxcryptor 2.43.1441, the problem is still there. What I did is that I look at Boxcryptor Settings/Locations and I saw G:Google File Drive Stream listed in the Manage Locations. I was unable to remove it. I click on Advanced, de-selected Auto Detect and go back to Location and could not remove G:Google File Drive Stream.

I quit Google Drive 45.0.12.0. Then go to Boxcryptor settings and removed G:Google File Drive Stream from Manage Locations.. But once I restart the Google Drive, G:Google File Drive Stream appears in Manage Locations again.

So I go to my Google Drive app settings and click "Disconnect account." I then removed G:Google File Drive Stream from Manage Locations.

Then I sign in again. Boxcryptor no longer automatically mount the drive. So I click select and mount G:\ Google Drive(G). It no longer shows as G:Google File Drive Stream.

After this, it then works perfectly fine.

January 29, 2021 - Google Drive for desktop
Windows and macOS: Version 45.0.12.0

Drive File Stream is now Google Drive for desktop. The branding in the product has also been updated to Google Workspace, the new name for G Suite.
The mount point path remains the same, so you can still find all your files in the same places, but shortcuts to the application have been renamed to Google Drive.
On macOS, the application name has been changed to Google Drive. No application name changes on Windows.
Additional bug fixes and performance improvements.
