Boxcryptor App login not working on macOS 11.2.3 M1 mini

Hi,

I've installed the boxcryptor App on my M1 mac mini (macOS 11.2.3), but I can not log in using the app. Login on the website using Safari or Firefox works just fine.

I've enabled 2FA and Security Token. I can login with both on the website, but trying to log in within the boxcryptor App won't work.
The app opens a private Safari window, I enter Username and password and whether I choose Authenticator App or security key, I will receive an error message:

Auth App: "Invalid one time password, please try again"
Security Key: "Internal server error: Security key data has not been accepted. Please try again."

When I try to log in using the boxcryptor app, the boxcryptor app launches the Safari Browser, even thow I've set Firefox as default.

Any ideas how to get the App running?

Hello,

Since version 2.39.1119, Boxcryptor for macOS is using a new authorization mechanism which was added in macOS 10.15 Catalina and is now recommended by Apple. The default browser is used if it supports this new mechanism / otherwise macOS falls back to Safari and we have no control over which browser is used - it is completely handled by macOS. Firefox does not seem to support this new mechanism yet.

In macOS, the session sends the page load request to the user’s default browser if it handles authentication sessions, or to Safari otherwise.

Regarding authenticator app: There are no known issues with authenticator apps and it should work as expected. If you receive an "invalid one time password" error, in 99% the underlying cause is indeed a problem with the authenticator app (e.g. using a wrong authenticator app for a different Boxcryptor account).

Regarding security key: We pushed a change today which improves compatibility with security keys in Safari. Please try if you can now sign in with your security key in Boxcryptor for macOS.
