Hi, it appears that Boxcryptor is having issues mounting the drive on Windows 11. Any news around when an update will resolve this? A bit frustrating not being able to access files

  • Hi everyone,

With our latest update, we are finally fully compatible with Windows 11 again.

    Best regards,
    Florian

I had to turn off the "embed in windows mount manager" option in advanced settings to make it work on windows 11.

Craven, many thanks for the hint! I had the same problem as gebzxc. Disabling the windows mount manager made it work! great, thanks

I have the lastest version (2.49.1965) installed on current windows 11 Pro (21h2;22000.282).

The options "Mount for all" users and "Windows mount manager" are not available/disabled for me.

Are there any plans to bring this functionality back? I depend on them to get backups of my data.

TomDi Due to compatibility issues, these advanced options are currently not yet available in Windows 11. We are actively working on bringing them back at the moment.

I have this problem as well and have the latest version installed.

where do i find the advanced options?

am I to assume that: until a new version is available, i cannot access the encrypted files via my PC?

        Hi bkw,

The current Boxcryptor Release does work with Windows 11, with the limitation that some advanced settings are disabled to prevent mounting issues of the Boxcryptor drive.

        Best regards,
        Florian

thanks for your response. Support managed to successfully sort the problem out and I am back to normal using Boxcruptor with Windows 11.

          Hello,
i just wanted to follow up on the fakt, that the advanced settings are not fully functional on Windows 11 right now.

Is there any update date to if and when these problems will be fixed?

I depend on the options since I can't use ome of my files without them being mounted via the mount manager.

          Kind Regards

            Hi Proximity,

Robert We are actively working on bringing them back at the moment.

We expect to have a first experimental version early next year.

Sorry to hear that! Unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it, maybe you are willing to install Boxcryptor in a virtual machine @ Windows 10 until we can provide you with an updated app.

            Best regards,
            Florian

            Hi Florian,

thanks for the update. If there will be an Beta testing I would be happy to test it out, if thats an option at somepoint.

            Have a nice Christmas.

            Regards

Hello, I'd like to follow up on this topic.
I am a very satisfied user of Boxcryptor (local account), and I've been for several years now. I just upgraded to win11, though, and this error immediately pops up with the latest version 2.49.1965: "Failed to mount drive. The boxcryptor drive could not be mounted. Please re-install Boxcryptor..."
Following the first posts to this thread, disabling the magic "Windows Mount Manager" option seems the only trick to have Boxcryptor on Win11. But in my case that option is disabled.
My question: when you say that "The current Boxcryptor Release does work with Windows 11", how can I make it work without using the "Windows Mount Manager" option? I am quite possibly missing something, but at the moment my files are all locked (only the portable version allows at least to do some basic manipulations).
If no solution is available I'll have to extract all files and leave them not encrypted: but I really don't want to do this and drop Boxcryptor, it is by far the best solution out there!
Thank you for your help and enjoy your holidays.
            Teo

oldoteo EDIT: Merely uninstalling Boxcryptor 2.49.1465, rebooting, reinstalling, rebooting and repeating everything twice did the trick. Ok, some advanced options are disabled, but Boxcryptor is showing correctly as a new drive.
Sorry for my previous question, now it works.
Goodbye and keep up the outstanding work!

Florian I have the latest update, I can now mount as fixed, for all users, in mount manager, but X: does not show up in Indexing Options. What else can I try? EDIT: Actually, unchecking mount manger and saving and then re-checking it fixed the issue.

                  Hi Florian
Boxcryptor is not shown in the context menu under Windows 11, only when I click on "Show more options" do I get to an "old" context menu where I also find Boxcryptor. For full compatibility, this should also be improved, please.

Hi Deleted_User4, we do have the integration into the new context menu on our roadmap. Since once your folder structure is set up correctly you usually do not need the context menu that often anymore, we decided that this does not count towards "full compatibility" to Windows 11, though.

                    Best regards,
                    Florian

Florian Hi, was trying to decrypt some .bc-files that somehow got left after migration. Without the context menu that included (.decrypt or "add folder to encrypted location" e.g.), it was a bit tricky to find a way to decrypt this, and it took me some time to do so (by adding the location manually in boxcryptor, and then copying the files over from the virtual drive to another folder on the hd, thus decrypting them).

However, such a operation seems circumvent and unintuitive, and damages the smoothness of the user experience.
Please add an option to the effect of those mentioned over, even you see it fit. It would add to the user experience.

Other than that great app! Been using it for many years, an excellent addition to privacy! Thanks for your work!
