Florian As of today the client is not usable for me. One of my use case is that I sync certain data files between my Mac book and my Mac Studio via one drive. With the new Boxcryptor client there is no determisitic when the files are synced. With the old client (sync by One-drive) the files were synced within seconds. My One-drive client is still active - to sync files that are not encrypted and even there I can see that the files are still synced but not reachable by the Boxcryptor client. For me the new client is not working at all for my use cases. Normally I would go back to the old client - as this would only help until Ventura is coming up this is also not a real alternative. I'm using Boxcryptor already from the beginning and I was always very happy - to be honest now I am really looking for alternatives as the software as of today is not working for me. What ca I expect for your side in short term to solve these general problems?

First, thank you! Generally working as expected. I use OneDrive for work. First thing I noticed (maybe unrelated as I just changed Mac's for the first time in years and went all-in on the new client) is that my macOS tags are now missing from the folders they were assigned to. I had a collection of disparate folders all over my tree that had a tag called "123" for example. That way I could see "123" in finder and see all those folders from all over the place. I'm going to go see if I can find anything else on this in the community on tags. Thanks.

Hi Florian,

it appears to me that the initial sync is extremely slow, even when (locally) syncing a local storage location. I have a powerful machine, neither CPU, nor network or disk activity is anywhere close to busy, they all look more like idle, yet progress is dead slow. (I'm currently in two initial sync runs: 1 OneDrive account and 1 local storage location. Both provider entries in the "Start" tab of BC's menu icon show activity, but I did not find any possibility for looking closer into what's going on. When I look at the cache contents using finder, I can see that lots of contents are not yet downloaded into the two _{/Library/CloudStorage} locations.)

Can I pause any of the ongoing sync's (e.g. the OnDrive one so that the local sync gets more of BCs cycles)?

I'd be interested to more about the performance issues with local storages on your system. Can you do a screen recording of the problem (command + shift + 5) and make it available to us through support@boxcryptor.com? Don't forget to mention this thread.

A pause of any ongoing syncs is (at this time) not yet possible.

Day 2 results. First thing I notice is that the file provider approach assumes you always want every file encrypted. This isn't the case for me. Most of my stuff is encrypted, but a shared One Drive folder with my teammates (non-Boxcryptor users) is not encrypted. But now every time I duplicate a file in that folder, or drag a new file into that folder, it automatically encrypts. So then I have to make a decrypted copy for them to see it. So I duplicate File A (unencrypted) to make File B (encrypted). Then I make an unencrypted copy of File B (encrypted) to make File C (unencrypted). Then I have to delete File B. This results in having File A (unencrypted) and File C (unencrypted). This was accomplished much easier before by just duplicating an unencrypted file in an unencrypted folder.

The other issue I've seen is shared files in OneDrive. Teammates share their files with me. Those file shares don't seem to be picked up by Boxcryptor's One Drive built-in sync. So I still need One Drive installed and running to see those files. So now I essentially have two One Drive instances on my PC, one in Boxcryptor and one native One Drive app. Each saving files in a different location.

mlaferle regarding the shared (and missing) files on OneDrive: Did you check the "Shared" folder directly in your Boxcryptor location? If the file isn't there either, feel free to contact us at support@boxcryptor.com so we can get to the bottom of this.

Same problem for me. Cannot sync large DevonThink file any more as App quits with an error of File Provider.

ibloch I know now why the App was more than 6 weeks on review at the Mac Appstore at Apple. Seems like it has bugs all over the place. I'm really wondering if I can trust a encryption app with this quality. What if they implemented the safety critical things with the same care as the new Mac app was tested?

Day 4. I'm finding it more and more frustrating that I can't encrypt/decrypt files in place. I have a large folder I want to encrypt... and I'm afraid to use the "Create Encrypted Copy" command. I don't want two copies of what is there. I want to encrypt/decrypt in place.

Yet: Some feature requests (if not "functionality bug improvements"):

In the macos menubar icon/menu, please make it so that

error messages disappera after a while or can be explicitly removed, and/or carry a time stamp (as is I can simply not tell whether there are current problems or some (really) old ones)
current activities can be viewed reliably (every once in a while, I can see what's going on, but most of the time, I see nothing at all)
sync with individual storage providers can be paused (currently all I can do is stop the whole service or remove individual providers. In the first case, obviously this stops everything, in the second the local cache in Library/CloudStorage gets removed)
all of these could be switched on/off in the settings tab (which offers VERY little functionality as is)

So, had a longer exchange with Boxcryptor support today. Large file syncing simply is not possible anymore (even when adding the folder as local storage). Somehow the new interface is so slow that even local files cannot be accessed any more with reasonable speed. For database syncing this is crucial.

This basically means: 3.8 version simply is not up to the task for large file syncing (which was one of my main usages). Had to downgrade to the previous version to salvage my files.

Cancelled my subscription and switched to Cyptomator. Working fine so far....speedy as it used to be with Boxcryptor.

ok, so to be clear - this state of the art api aka file provider api that apple is forcing everybody to use, is nearly unusable as it is slow as hell am kind of sh*** like iCloud Drive sync right? Fully understand now why dropbox is far behind an "compatible" version for Monterey 12.3 and higher. User will freak out, when their complete workflow is not working or unusable after migration to file provider api.... #onlyapple

I'm a big user of (Dropbox) Selective Sync together with Boxcryptor --- this enables me to have a large amount of encrypted files in my Dropbox, but to only pull down a small subset onto my work machine or my small laptop. I'm not seeing how to do this with the new version. It was seamless before, as Boxcryptor just had unencrypted versions of all my Dropbox files (in /Volumes/Secomba), which I'd determine through their Selective Sync preferences. Now, Boxcryptor asked for my Dropbox password, then suddenly had all of my directories in ~/Library/CloudStorage. (and which of those was populated seemed kind of arbitrary) I have not found anywhere how to use the new version with Selective Sync. Did they really just suddenly assume that we'd want all of our files on every machine? I certainly hope not. Please let us know how to use Dropbox Selective Sync with Boxcryptor going forward, thank you.

mcrotk Right Click and select download to all folders you want offline.

mcrotk Boxcryptor is actually not downloading any file before you start accessing it. This means that while all of your files are displayed right away, they don't yet take up space on your Mac.
If you still would like to have only a subset of your files and folders displayed in Boxcryptor, I recommend installing the Dropbox Sync Client, doing the Selective Sync there, and add the Dropbox folder to Boxcryptor as a local storage.

Updated from Version 2.x to 3.8 a couple days ago. No matter what I try, I can't open any file in iCloudDrive.
Whenever I try to click on the "cloud" symbol to download the data it gives me a rights issue. When right-click on "administer rights" everything is greyed out.
