Hi everybody,

Again, thanks for all the feedback which is really helpful - may it be positive or critical. We also considered it when re-evaluating our macOS 13 Ventura roadmap in the past weeks.

As a result and contrary to our initial plans, we have just released a new version of the Boxcryptor for macOS legacy app (v2.x) which is compatible with macOS 13 Ventura. We understand that the new Boxcryptor for macOS app (v3.x) does not yet meet all requirements users might have (esp. regarding an always offline availability) and we want users to have the ability to make the switch from v2.x to v3.x on their own schedule - rather than being forced to because of the new macOS version.

You can download the new version of the legacy app with macOS 13 Ventura compatibility and it will also be distributed via auto-update to all v2.x users in the next few days:

The new Boxcryptor for macOS app will still be our default option for users on macOS 12 or newer, but if somebody is not yet ready for whatever reason, it is now possible to stay on the legacy app longer - even when running macOS 13 Ventura.

Robert This is fantastic news and much appreciated! This will allow me to continue running v2 on my main system and my ßeta M1 and Intel systems on v3 monitoring its progress, all running macOS Ventura.

Hi, I have Boxcryptor 3.9 (on macOS Monterey) and it's been working great, very happy with the product.

However, whenever I try to save a Numbers document this comes up. Prior to installing Boxcryptor this has not appeared for me, even when syncing to Google Drive. Is this a bug or is there a fix for it?

nathan Could you check if the error persists with the 3.11? That version is available at https://www.boxcryptor.com/en/download/macos/. If it does, please contact support@boxcryptor.com and we'll have a closer look at that.

Christian it would be nice if boxcryptor actually would work like that. but it does not. it just bloody does not download anything that i select with "download now". Can you help?

Alex-ander If it doesn't even start any download, please contact us at support@boxcryptor.com to have a closer look at it. Best provide a screen sharing (command + shift + 5) with that so we can get a grasp of it right away.
If the files are removed again after a while when they were downloaded, please see https://boxcryptor.community/d/17455-boxcryptor-for-macos-3-x-feedback/85. We are already working on an improvement here.

Das ist bis heute noch so, nur mit höheren Versiosnummern: Danach ist bei mir 3.9 die neueste Version, aber installiert die Version 3.11.
Darüber könnte ich hinwegsehen, wenn BC-V3 überhaupt so arbeiten würde, wie es zu erwarten sein sollte:
Crashs, Datei-Verdoppelungen (Folge: drohender Überlauf meiner 2 TB SSD), ..., ..., BC-V3 Client verlor mehrfach die den Login und die über Start eingebundenen Clouds, ...).
Ich werde wohl auf die alte Version zurückgehen.

There are clearly some bugs in the file synchronisation. If I add a folder it adds across all my devices but if I then delete one it only deletes locally, so my folder structure is rapidly getting into a mess.

Please add a function to allow us to download all cloud files onto local devices automatically rather than on an "on demand" basis. For example if I am on my laptop and on a plane and have forgotten to download a file I am stuck because I don't have internet access to retrieve it from the cloud. I totally get why some people like to use on demand, but i like to have everything on my device so please give us the option to do this (like the major file sync apps all do)

If the system encounters an error with a file it kicks the whole sync process out rather than just skipping the problem file. I use OneDrive and have a OneNote file there by default which the system can't handle so every time I try and sync all my files (see point above) it stops the whole process. This is a pain but also causes real problems with synchronisation.

I tried to move the OneNote files but that gave me an error and even though I have moved them back I can't cancel the error notification and I think that might be causing problems with subsequent synchronisation

An update on the sync problems. It is clear there is an issue with deleting files locally and that deletion not being replicated in the cloud, and thus on other local devices. It works perfectly when I add files or folders but not when I delete them.

If I delete the files on a different device that still uses the OneDrive app to process synchronisation then that deletion works fine up to the cloud, but isn't recognised on the the new 3.x instance. (ie 3.x system doesn't process deletions to/from the cloud; additions seem to work both ways, fine)

Environment Monterey 12.6, M1, SSD, lots of RAM

I just installed BC 3.11 (318) and am using it with NextCloud (Ionos is the Provider).
Copying files from an unencrypted local directory to an encrypted BC directory.
Some small to medium (4MB) pictures and two larger videos (500MB/2GB).

Experience: 4 of 12 files, 2 of them the videos, receive errors while uploading.
That is 30%...

Using a second user on a different directory with the same nextcloud but w/o
any connection to BC works like a charm.

BC shows error: "413" which seems to be "entity too large" but also here
the upload directly to NC works w/o any error.

I am reluctant to copy more into BC. That does not seem to me production ready by now.

Any hints if I have to tweak NC/Ionos in any way?

Ich wollte die Migration zu BC 3.11 angehen und nutze BC mit OneDrive (ohne Sync Client). Ich erhalte bei einigen Dateien, die ich aus der Cloud auf den Mac laden möchte, folgende Fehlermeldung:

"Die Dateierweiterung deutet auf eine verschlüsselte Datei hin, aber ihr Inhalt scheint unverschlüsselt oder beschädigt zu sein."

Über das iPad komme ich aber an die Dateien heran... die sind also nicht kaputt oder so - zumindest gelingt dies auf einem iPad unter iOS 15.7 - unter iOS 16.1 geht grad geht nix... da lädt BC gar keine Dateien, nicht mal die Dateiübersicht.

Auch nett: alle Dateien auf dem Mac tragen das Änderungsdatum "21.09.1667". Greift man über die BC iPad-App auf die Cloud zu, sieht man die korrekten Zeitstempel.

Trebor_Returns sorry I don’t speak German. I’ve seen this date issue with OneDrive too. My only solution was too link my OneDrive account to the Odrive sync provider which allows me to link the local Odrive synced folder to BC using a local file provider.

mlaferle This is currently a technical restriction. I've added the capability for creating encrypted / decrypted copies offline to our roadmap.

NoteBookUser You are absolutely correct.
In short: Both features ("download now" and "always keep local") are on our roadmap and we do want to offer them in the future.

A bit more elaborated: "Download Now" is offered by (and actually even independently managed by) Finder itself - not by us. It should work as expected (and for the large part of users we get feedback it also does), but there's a caveat: Finder can and does remove downloaded files from time to time according to heuristics that the documentation is not telling us. So when you "download now" and some time later the files got removed again, all we know is that Finder assumed you wouldn't need them anymore - but we get no explanation from Apple or Finder for that other than that this happens often when disk space is running low on the machine. Our response to that is that we are evaluating ways to counter that behaviour.

"Always keep local" is simply a new feature, and it's on our roadmap.

Christian Das selbe Problem habe ich auch mit der 3.11 auf macOS Ventura nachdem ich vor einigen Tagen auf ein McBook Pro 14" (M1 Pro) umgestiegen bin.
Davor hatte ich BC 2.46.1667 auf macOS Catalina (10.15.7) auf einem iMac (late 2012) laufen. Als cloud storage benutze ich OneDrive und den OneDrive sync client (sowohl Ventura als auch Catalina)
Auf dem Ventura-Rechner erscheinen alle Dateien im Boxcryptor mit dem Datum 21.09.1667. Auf dem Catalina Rechner haben alle Dateien das richtige Datum. Im OneDrive Ordnern auf beiden Rechner ist das Datum jeweils auch korrekt.
Dieses Problem ist bei Dateien, die schon auf OneDrive liegen. Wenn ich aber neue Dateien in den Boxcryptor-Ordner lege, dann bleibt das richtige Datum erhalten.
Das ist ein recht übler Bug, da ich ca. 12.000 Dateien auf OneDrive habe und alle das falsche und gleiche Datum haben.
