I have been using Boxcryptor with a local account on Windows 10 and Google Drive for many year now. A few years back, I copied my .bckey file from Windows 10 to my Android phone, and installed Boxcryptor on my phone, and that seemed to work fine, too (though I could only update files on my PC and have the changes reflected on my google drive, updates made on my Android phone remained local to my phone).
A month or two ago, I started getting an error message that Google considered the Boxcryptor app to be unsafe, and I could not longer access decrypted files on my phone. I then saw in the "what's new" section for 2.125.1115 (Nov 28, 2024): Fixed: "This app is blocked error when connecting to Google Drive". So I figured great. I uninstalled Boxcryptor from my phone and re-installed it.
But now I find that with the new version on my phone, I cannot create a local account at all! It appears that maybe a non-local account might still work, as it only says new accounts cannot be created. But I've never had a non-local account, only a local account, that still works fine on Windows 10, and used to work on Android using the same .bckey file. Since the Boxcryptor app didn't provide any way to use a local account, I tried opening the .bckey file with the Boxcryptor app, but that didn't work.
What can I do? I haven't seen anything saying explicitly that Boxcryptor on Android no longer works with local accounts. And I'm now getting worried about Windows 11. I heavily rely on Boxcryptor to give me access to my encrypted password lists on Windows 10. When Microsoft finally force me to upgrade to Windows 11, will I be screwed?
