Dear Florian, as you asked the community in above post what we think, here is some feedback from me. The full Boxcryptor integration into the Apple Files app seems to make a very old Boxcryptor problem reoccur, i.e. all folder and files names, which incl. "+" within the name are not being recognized and the user gets a respective error message. In my case I will most likely have to rename plenty of files and use "&" instead of "+". Is this a problem within the Apple Files app or something, which could be fixed from your side? Another issue is the fact that no file is being found via the search function (by typing in part of the file name), unless same has been downloaded to the iOS device already. Same has definitely not been the case within the stand alone Boxcryport app before. Unless I do something wrong it seems that I will have to download ALL files on my respective iOS Devices now, filling up unnecessary storage space, in order to be able to seach for files. Appreciate if Boxcryptor could look into these things and let me have some feedback. So far the full integration of Boxycryptor into the Apple Files app is having certain drawbacks. In general I'm very pleased with Boxcryptor for a number of years, but on first glance the full integration is having some negative side effects. Best regards, Marc

Hallo Florian Ich habe das Problem, dass von einem Ordner nur 100 Dateien angezeigt werden, obwohl es in dem Ordner sehr viel mehr gibt. Ich benutze die iCloud. Das Problem konnte ich sowohl mit iPhone als auch iPad mit der neuesten Version reproduzieren. Bin ich die Einzige, der das so geht?

Hi marcse , thank you for your feedback! The Problem with Magenta Cloud has been identified and will be fixed shortly in one of the upcoming releases. About the search issue: I presented your issue to our development team, and we will see if we can improve the situation a bit. Note that we will never be able to provide a full search in your provider since that does simply conflict with our encryption - a "shallow" search (when you already visited a folder) might be technically possible. Dear team! Thank you for the great work you do, and for protecting our privacy! By chance, I just switched from MacBook and iPhone to iPad and iPhone, just when the Boxcryptor Apple files app integration occurred. So far, I am using the free version of Boxcryptor. I love it! So far, I shared a single folder with lots of subfolders from my MacBook. I’m using OneDrive. I now stopped doing that, and to be sure that it works after installing everything to my iPad, I deleted Boxcryptor from my iPhone temporary. I now have access to everything, using the new Boxcryptor files app extension on my new iPad. I logged out of Boxcryptor and oOeDrive on my MacBook now and still have access on my iPad, so everything seems to be working from the cloud. My questions: when I now open documents, how exactly does this work? It’s a local unencrypted version saved on my iPad? If so, for how long? To save space on the iPad, do I need to manually delete files locally at one point? And can I securely do so? And if I make changes to a file, will these be uploaded automatically? What if I open, say, an excel file with Axel, having autosave on, will it be uploaded to my secure box crypto space on my OneDrive account? I know these are kinds of questions of principle, but I could not easily find an answer in this forum. I hope someone can quickly answer and clear things up for me. Are there any plans to somehow add a layer of protection (Face ID, password, etc) to prevent unauthorized access? Seems like a major issue as we can set passwords on all other platforms, and iOS may act as the weak link in security. While Files app integration is nice, I feel like preventing unauthorized access is also very important.

rocketll In addition, any files opened now show up in the “Recent” tab of the Files app. This, in my mind, is unacceptable, as anyone with can find and open the files extremely easily.

Hi rocketll , Removing the app protection was a necessary step towards the development of a "Files app - only" Boxcryptor app, since there this is Apple's idea of how to provide a seamless file integration in their operating systems. If Apple someday decides that an extra security layer is necessary for the Files app, they are probably going to implement it for the whole app themselves. First problem I noticed since updating to the new Boxcryptor is when I try to open, close, and then reopen the same Excel file on iOS (that is stored on DropBox), when I select the file in "Recent Files" it won't work -- I have to go to the file directory (Files App) and open the file there.

This wouldn't be a huge issue, but when I try to go to the Files App and again try to open, close, and reopen an Excel file using iOS, my file gets corrupted (has happened twice now). Would really appreciate some feedback on this.

Hi, I am new to boxcryptor and am using/testing it on my ipad. I have google drive linked o my boxcryptor account.

What I was wanting to know is I have created a ‘new’ folder in google drive from boxcryptor and then moved existing files into that folder from google driver. Are those existing file that I had in google drive now encrypted within the new folder I created?. The folder has a green dot next to it.

I read you cannot encrypt existing files but any new folder is encrypted so I would assume if I move existing files into the newly created folder then it would all be encrypted?.

darth I could not figure out how to add the keyfile to the Boxcryptor app to set up and retrieve my files using a local account on IOS. It has not been working across all the versions that have been published over the last 2 years. I could not find a way to "Send" the key file to Boxcryptor. This means that, should the Boxcryptor servers be down, you will not be able to retrieve your files on an IOS device. This is a big big drawback. So, basically, the instructions at https://www.boxcryptor.com/en/help/boxcryptor-account/ios/#local-account used to work in the past, but not anymore. Iphone 7 with 15.x IOS version

Während ich auf meinem iPad immerhin ein paar Suchresultate erhalte, bekomme ich auf meinem iPhone überhaupt keine Resultate angezeigt. Auf beiden Geräten läuft das aktuelle iOS. Auf dem iPhone habe ich auch eine Neuinstallation durchgeführt. Diese erneute Anfrage bezieht sich auf unseren obigen Austausch vom Mai 2021. Kann man sich sonst auch telefonisch an jemanden wenden, um die Problematik mal direkt zu besprechen. MfG, Marc

On my iPad, I can view the file structure just fine, but when I try to open a file, it just says "waiting".
When I try to upload a file, it also just says "waiting".

I just tried logging out of Boxcryptor and then logging back in, to no avail.

I’ve been a long time Boxcryptor user on macOS. This is my first foray into using it on iOS. My provider is Google Drive.

I'm encountering the same issue as cucumber65839 did.

The provider I'm using is also Google Drive.

Files uploaded or downloaded are stuck in "waiting" status.

Latest Boxcryptor app, and latest iOS 16.1.

I recently started using Boxcryptor (3.22) on my iPad with OneDrive. In the Files app, I noticed that changes (new files, deleted files) I had made on my Mac were not reflected in the Files app. Furthermore, changes I made in the Files app did not sync back to OneDrive. It also could not fetch subdirectories in some folders.

After some frustration, I cleared the cache in the Boxcryptor app, and voilà, all the changes synced, and I could see all subdirectories.

This may be related to what cucumber65839 and @docents_plate0t are reporting.

Thanks @docents_plate0t . I just gave clearning the cache a shot but still have the same problem.
I can confirm that this is taking place on both my iOS device and iPadOS device running the latest versions (16.1). The apps are running the latest version too (3.22).

Is there a solution to 'waiting' problem on iOS yet? I have been using Box Cryptor for a long time and this is the first time experiencing the issue. I cleared the cache and tried to reinstall the app, restart device to no avail. Very frustrating.

ioscrypt As a last measure I signed out of the boxcryptor account on ios, logged in and reattached the icloud drive. things seem to work for now.

removing and attaching icloud drive worked. my suspicion is that boxcryptor is enforcing some kind of authentication timeout. it will be pain to relogin/attach each time app is used. need to research if touch id can come the rescue.

I am still having this problem.
If I sign out, sign in, and re-add my provider (Google Drive), it seems to work for a little while, but not consistently. Sometimes after re-adding it still just says “waiting”.

Is this a Boxcryptor problem or a File Provider problem?

Hi Boxcryptor Team!

As I have written in the macOS thread, I reverted to the old version on my Mac, because Version 3 was causing major issues and was totally unreliable and unusable.

On iOS I am now on Version 3.24 and I am still having major issues. Boxcryptor is slow and unresponsive, files take ages to load and I have the re-load files again and again, even after having downloaded and opened them already several times. Sometimes I get error messages telling me that communication with some helper app was not possible. Files remain in unclear states between downloaded but not viewable.

Before the new versions were released, Boxcryptor was working seamlessly and without a hitch on all my devices, now it has become a complete mess.

I realize that this may be due to some bad APIs that Apple is forcing developers to use, but if this remains the state of affairs, I don't see how I can keep using Boxcryptor. Is there any way to revert back to the old version on iOS, too? Just like on macOS?

I have already started testing Cryptomator, which has shortcoming of its own, but as things are today, it seems to be a serious alternative.

Since v3.23 I'm experiencing extreme battery drain caused by the BC app (iPhone 10 pro w/ lates iOS). BC is synced to my OneDrive. There is something running in the background by the app which consumes a lot of battery power. Usually, my battery lasts for about 24-28 hours with normal usage. With 3.23 the battery was down to 10% within 12 hours! I signed out BC on my iPhone and the battery usage is back to normal again. 3.24 brings no improvement.
