I've downloaded my keys. But now I need to know how to use them.

The documentation is brief and not very helpful. It says click '...' on the sign-in screen and click on 'Open key file'

There is no '...' on the sign-in screen. And what is the sign-in screen anyway?

nd89 Hey there! On which platform are you using Boxcryptor?

I too would like to know how to use a local account. I am using Mac Ventura. My premium account expired a few weeks ago and I am desperately trying to decrypt all of my files on Google Drive, but the process is EXTREMELY slow, with downloads failing and needing many retries. So I want to download all my files using Google Drive and decrypt them locally

I've exported my keys but now what? When I double-click on the keyhole it says I and currently logged in and must log out. When I log out I obviously need to log in again, but that just logs me into my regular online account. I cannot create a local account (if indeed I need to do that) so now what?

agoodpub Hey, which version of Boxcryptor are you using? Are you using the new Boxcryptor app which uses a new API by Apple? Did you connect your Boxcryptor software directly to Google Drive?

On the form when you have to enter your e-mail-adress there is in the top right corner a '...'. At least when you are using windows. You will see it only after the first login.
Did you reset to factory defaults?
I believe you have to do that first before you can change to a local account.

Mattis I am on the new app . 3.12. Which I think is using the fileprovider mechanism.

dt1807 Thank you. I logged in on my Windows VM and I saw those three dots and saw the local account option. Does that mean I will be able to continue using this method after the end of this month?

agoodpub Try to install the old version. This version should allow to use a local keyfile.

agoodpub Yes for sure. The local keyfile will work after your account became useless.

Mainly Mac. But I have access to Windows as well (VM and desktop)

agoodpub I got that. Which version of Boxcryptor are you running on your Mac? The new version with Boxcryptors own connection to the cloud providers? (I already asked you this question, could you share an screenshot from the preferences menu of Boxcrytor on the Mac?)

If a user has a local account and a key file, can they continue to use the software after the January cut off date?

scs1234 According to the documentation from Boxcryptor itself, this should work. But keep in mind that this might only work on a computer, not smartphone or tablet.

Mattis Thanks. Will do a unencrypted back up to be safe.

scs1234 Youโ€™re welcome. ๐Ÿ˜„ Always have a backup and think about to migrate your files to another solution.

Mattis True and thank you so very much. The newest version does not allow local app where the keyflile works. I downloaded it from a site that has them all and downloaded the oldest. There, when you open it and click on the 3 dots you can use the local account. Again thank you very much because I had no clue as to what I could do once boxcryptor closed down and mine was the free account. Now I have the local one and I downloaded the keyfile already, so I am safe. All the best to you

dali52 You're welcome and thank you for your kind words. ๐Ÿ˜€
