koutlis I tried the Alpha with Dropbox and I'm a bit confused on how the syncing works, especially in relation to the "selective sync" feature of Dropbox... It seems that Boxcryptor ignores the selectivelly-synced files on my Mac and each time just downloads from the Dropbox cloud the file that I need... Am I right? Please consult on how this is handled, as it is an important aspect of our work flow.
Thank you for your feedback. Can you clarify what you mean by "selective sync"?
In general, the Alpha replicates your cloud storage's full file and folder structure - keeping all files online-only by default. File contents are download automatically when you open a file for the 1st time and then cached locally on your Mac. When you open a file for a 2nd or 3rd time, the file is not downloaded again and the locally cached file is used instead. Dropbox calls this feature "Smart Sync".
If you are actually referring to the Dropbox feature "Selective Sync", then this is not supported by the Alpha and likely also won't be in the future. Due to the online-only approach, even huge folders won't take up space on your disk until you actually open files.
However, in any case, we will add the option to add local folders on your Mac to Boxcryptor. If a users wishes to keep using e.g. the Dropbox sync client, the local Dropbox folder can then be added to Boxcryptor. The experience will then be similar to the current Boxcryptor for macOS version - at the expense that you need an additional app on your Mac. Local folders will be added to the Alpha as soon as possible.
